If we were to look back at some of 2012 Fall’s biggest trends, that I reckon will stretch all throughout next season’s Spring & Summer, than the Leather Skirt is one item to definitely look out for. If you have it, stick to it and if not… buy it and play up your glamorous super-hot persona in it. If a few years ago leather screamed S&M and was quite the fashion risqué (nobody wanted to look like cheap hookers so they pretty much avoided the texture, well unless… you were super edgy, adventurous and confident to rock such a look, in which case kudos to you!), today every single designer has a few items in their collection. Remember 2012/2013 Fall & Winter Fashion Week? And forget black leather. I mean who ever said we had to settle for gloomy shades? It’s in with green, blues, reds, burgundy. Sure if you want to stick to basics, it’s fine… as long as you keep it leathery!

What this style does is actually empower us, as women, as designers & celebs gave us a free pass a rocking the leather skirt everywhere. No, no… now don’t jump to conclusions and think it’s not for you, just because you are a sporty girl or au contraire prefer the smart looks. The leather skirt can be styled in millions of ways, depending on its design, cut, color and of course… your taste. One of my favorite looks of the leather skirt is the office look – Smart meets Sophisticated. A pencil over-the-knee (or even knee-length) black leather skirt will look stunning with heels. Pair it with a casual top to tone down the look or a super smart one to keep it extra professional. A blazer, jewelry & a fab bag will complete the look. I love how pencil leather skirts look with plain T-shirts or tucked in jersey tops.

If however you love to show off those legs, the mini leather skirt is the answer. Tight or pleated, A-line or super large, it will look amazing with jumpers, denim shirts and a cozy coat. Opt for heels if you’re going for a sexy look or for flat boots, converse, or ballet pumps for a more laid back take on the style. I love how it looks with a jumper, parka & flat boots. For a more sophisticated look, I’d go for a short slim leather skirt with a knitted top and ankle boots. And remember… for a more fun take on this trend choose the colored leather skirts or be adventurous on designs: maxi leather skirts, over-sized & funky styles.

What I love about a leather skirt is that it can dress up any outfit you have and make any old T-shirt or sweater look like a million bucks. Not to mention that it will get you out of any fashion trouble: sophisticated office look, dinner out, dates, parties. And… you can wear it all year long (add tights in winter and switch to sandals in summer). Quite the fashion investment isn’t it.

How would you rock your pencil leather skirt?

Dana
